When I asked where Bill was, they answered, “Oh, he didn’t want to come.” “Why?” I asked. “Well, he doesn’t think he has a problem,” they replied. “Maybe he’s right,” I said, to their surprise. “Tell me about it.” They recited a history of problems that had begun at a very young age.

Introduction to Victory Over the Darkness

As we embark on this year-long journey through the book, Victory Over the Darkness, there is an excitement in my spirit that is responding to the freedom that is so eloquently presented in this book. The freedom that our lives can be permanently changed as we are transformed by the truth of God’s Word…..only if we let it, allow it, and believe it. “Lend Me Your Hope” is the opening line of the Introduction to Victory Over the Darkness. I work with men on a daily basis who have lost their way, lost their hope. Hope that life can be better, different, more fulfilling. Most of the men I encounter at Renewed Life Ministries Outreach (RLMO) have very little hope that their lives can be different. But we know that is not the truth. Remember, it is the Truth that sets us free!

Dr. Anderson starts off chapter three with a story about a young lady in his Sunday School class who, to his surprise, was liked by everyone, had lots of friends, and eventually married the nicest guy in the college department.  He asks the question, “What was her secret?”  She simply accepted herself for who God said she was in Christ, and she confidently committed herself to God’s great goal for her life:  to love people and grow in Christ.  By all outward appearances, Claire had absolutely nothing going for her.  But, she understood the truth – she (and you) is unconditionally loved and accepted by her heavenly Father and understands who she is in Christ!
